Want to create a farmhouse style that feels authentic, not cheesy? Follow these five tips for a curated farmhouse feel!

{ONE} Avoid too many farmhouse signs with text. Too many signs with verbiage can create a busy, inauthentic feel. Try mixing a few of your favorite text signs with simple botanical prints or antique art.

{TWO} Mix textures. In my home, I try to have a mixture of soft textures like faux fur and velvet and natural fibers like sisal, jute, and wood. This creates the perfect blend of comfort and style.

{THREE} When in doubt, add a plant! I'm obsessed with greenery of all kinds, whether it's a faux plant or a living, breathing houseplant. If you go the faux route, make sure it looks pretty authentic! Some of my favorite sources for these are Hobby Lobby, Target and Homegoods.

{FOUR} Embrace lots of neutrals. I'm a huge fan of neutrals, whether they're incorporated in my walls, floors, or furniture. They don't have to be boring! Creating a neutral canvas in your home allows you to switch out accent colors easily and inexpensively. I love greens and blues for spring and summer, olive green and orange for fall, and of course red and green for Christmas!

{FIVE} Appreciate negative space. No, I don't mean bad vibes! I'm talking about learning to love that blank wall, that empty corner, that one object on a shelf (instead of 5). So often when people are trying to create a cozy farmhouse aesthetic, they feel like they have to fill every surface with signs, decor, furniture and art. That is simply not the case! Negative space leaves your home feeling relaxing, calm, and peaceful, and really allows your carefully chosen pieces to shine!
