Do you have a space in your home that makes you feel bummed as soon as you walk in? Let me guess - is this space functional but not super aesthetically pleasing? Not necessarily ugly but not anything you're proud of? Comfy but doesn't have that wow factor? My guess is that it's bumming you out because it's missing one of these key features.

A Fresh Wall Color

So often dark or especially bright paint colors can be overwhelming to the eye and hard to decorate around. They have their place, of course, but if your space is starting to feel dated or like it needs a change, here are some fail-safe colors that are trendy enough to make your space feel refreshed, but neutral enough to stay pleasing to the eye for years to come. A fresh coat of paint (or two!) can work wonders for a room!

If you like warm undertones: Sedate Gray by Sherwin Williams

If you love a true neutral: Gray Owl by Benjamin Moore

If you favor cool undertones: Passive by Sherwin Williams

If you just can't live without color: Gray Wisp by Benjamin Moore

A Unified Style

One of the most common issues I come across in a disjointed room is a lack of a specific style. Often I see a little farmhouse, a little coastal, some glam elements, some country, some traditional and some industrial styles all blended together. Sometimes this type of blending works beautifully, but often mixing styles is not for the novice decorator and can wind up looking like a bit of a hodgepodge. So what can you do to narrow in on your vibe? One helpful tool is my interior style quiz! My carefully designed quiz will help you focus in on which elements, colors and styles speak to you so that designing a room that is both comfortable and aesthetically pleasing is a much less daunting task. After you've determined your ideal style, often Pinterest or LIKEtoKNOW.it will have lots of ideas on specific ways to achieve that look. If it still seems overwhelming, contact me for help! Fresh Textiles

Often, in a space that feels tired, just swapping out textiles can make a huge difference! Ditch the stained or dated rug, worn out blankets, and permanently smooshed pillows and add a few inexpensive replacements! I love finding quality, texture-rich textiles at World Market and Homegoods.

A Little Green

I know I'm a broken record on this one, but I promise you - add a few faux plants or real houseplants and your space will automatically feel a little bit brighter, cleaner, and more updated. Just try and stick with the more modern types of greenery shown below. Gone are the days of faux ficus trees, dusty ferns, and ivy.

A Few Large Scale Focal Pieces

Many times a room that feels "off" has too many knick-knacks, which translates into clutter. While you don't have to become a minimalist to have a stunning space, cutting out some of the little tchachkes (yes, I had to look up the spelling on that one!) can really help your favorite focal pieces shine through. Scale is also key here! Rather than 5 small items, choose 1-3 larger items, and build upon those. Here, my focal piece is the large artwork, which I have tied to my existing couch by a few coordinating accent pieces. Remember, less is more!
